CHARLESTON, S.C. – In anticipation of a Sept. 30 grand opening, CalAtlantic Homes is putting the finishing touches on Saint John’s Lake, its newest coastal community with a peaceful, laid back lifestyle just minutes from historic downtown Charleston.
Located at 3348 Great Egret Drive on Johns Island, Saint John’s Lake is a unique community situated on a 63-acre recreational lake, with boat dock and designated launching areas, that residents can use for water sports including kayaking and paddle boarding “but the activities the lake provides are endless,” according to Gayle Jinks, CalAtlantic’s vice president of sales.
A pristine slice of property on Johns Island surrounded by 69 acres of protected wetlands, “Saint John’s Lake will offer homeowners some of the best Lowcountry living in the Charleston area,” Jinks said, adding that more than half of the 270 over-sized homesites will back directly onto the lake, which is over 1,000 feet wide at its widest point and up to 20 feet deep.
“Yet, all of this is just minutes from historic Charleston offering the finest cuisine in the South, along with shopping at boutiques and the Old Market. Horse-drawn carriage tours of local historical sites including Fort Sumter are among the entertainment and cultural venues, and The Aquarium is always a fantastic place to visit,” she said.
Johns Island as well features an array of highly rated restaurants that offer authenticity, atmosphere and unique menu items. Stretching 84 square miles, the population of the state’s largest island reached 14,000 – a 50 percent increase – between 2000 and 2010, and while the trend has continued it has slowed somewhat with numerous conservation organizations striving for eco-friendly growth, Jinks said.
CalAtlantic will offer two series of one- and two-story, single-family home designs at Saint John’s Lake: the Georgetown and Americana series. There will be a total of 13 floor plans to choose from and each design is open with a unique flow. The Hardi-Plank siding homes will range from 1,536 to nearly 3,800 square feet with between three and six bedrooms and two to five-and-a-half bathrooms. Optional outdoor living patios with a firepit, grill or fireplace are available. Pricing begins in the mid $200s.
Jinks said the new homes – which were designed to fill the needs of empty nesters and retirees as well as young families – will have high-efficiency gas heat, low-E single-hung windows, hardwood flooring in the foyer, 42-inch maple cabinets, stainless steel Whirlpool appliances and fully sodded yards.
Spanish moss-draped oak trees dotting the natural habitat complement the streetscape of the family friendly neighborhood. The island is known to be home to the Angel Oak and Southern Live Oak trees estimated to be between 400-1500 years old. The environmentally sensitive community is dotted with natural wildlife habitats, and the enviable Johns Island location – just six miles from West Ashley – gives homeowners exceptional access to excellent schools in the Charleston County School District, parks, and some of the country’s best beaches. Charleston International Airport is less than 18 miles away.
Amenities at Saint John’s Lake will include a resort-style pool with a gathering area and outdoor fireplaces for residents to enjoy, Jinks said. “We expect great success from this development and encourage buyers to check it out soon.”
The Saint John’s Lake grand opening on Sept.30 will feature food, refreshments and music from 12 to 3 p.m., and touring of the four professionally decorated models is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details, call 843-636-7937 or visit calatlantichomes.com/Charleston.
