Finding the right event space in Charleston is key to having a successful gathering

Whether you’re planning a wedding, corporate gathering, family reunion, or any other special event, choosing the right venue is key. If you’re looking for a local space with room for a big group, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and plenty of flexibility and customization, the Hyatt Place in Charleston’s historic district could be your spot.

“We have groups coming back year over year, which speaks to the team and service we provide,” says Rachel Frost, director of sales and marketing at the Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District. “Groups always want to come back.”

The hotel is ideal for weddings, and hosts a variety of corporate gatherings and association groups, too. Here’s everything to know about the hotel’s event spaces.

Customizable Catering Experience and a Brand-New Kitchen

The best way to transform a good event into a great event? Awesome food. This year, the hotel underwent a full renovation, and now offers full-service banquets and a catering team on site, including an executive chef. “The customizable catering menu is something we’re very proud of,” Frost says. “You can work with us to tailor and customize your menu to what you want, and then work directly with our executive chef.”

While they’ll work around your needs, the team primarily focuses on good old-fashioned southern, Lowcountry cuisine, for everything as simple as a continental breakfast or coffee break to an evening reception. Think classic dishes like she-crab soup and shrimp and grits. “Our team takes dishes like those very seriously,” Frost says. “They hold them near and dear to their hearts and make sure they’re perfect for our client.”

Versatility and Elegance

One of the hard parts of selecting a venue is making sure it will actually work for your event. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking King and Spring streets, Sterling Hall is a versatile space that can be arranged for everything from elegant weddings to productive training classes and team-building corporate events. It’s home to the stunning 4,000-square-foot Grand Magnolia Ballroom, which can be kept open or divided into smaller spaces as needed. Outside the ballroom is a pre-event space that works as a welcome space for receptions or conferences.

Get Some Fresh Air

If you want to enjoy the outdoors during your event, the hotel is also home to a courtyard with fire pits and lanterns that backs up to a lobby bar. One of the large corporate groups that returns each year for their big event likes to bring local food trucks into the courtyard — something many venues can’t accommodate.

The holidays are right around the corner, but the hotel still has openings available in December and January — so it’s time to start planning.

With over 8,500 square feet of meeting and event space, Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District is the perfect place to host weddings, corporate gatherings, and other special events. For more information or to book your next event, visit them online or call (843) 414-4900.
