Kempton of Charleston is more than just The Peninsula’s premier assisted living community. It’s also a Liberty Senior Living community and an experienced family-owned company that has been assisting people to manage their healthcare and residential needs for more than 145 years.
With seventeen locations across the Southeast, Kempton brings a unique approach to assisted living and memory care. Their true focus as an organization is to allow residents to maintain independence while receiving the quality care, support, and assistance that they need and deserve.
Kempton of Charleston opened on March 11, 2022, at their official ribbon cutting. Mayor John Tecklenburg, Councilman Robert Mitchell, Councilman Perry Waring, Kempton of Charleston owners Sandy and Ronnie McNeill, Executive Director for Kempton of Charleston Lindsay French, and Liberty Senior Living’s President Will Purvis attended the ceremony. Now, this beautiful new location in Charleston is open for tours daily—with more information about potential residency found on their website.
Kempton of Charleston sets itself apart from other assisted living communities for many reasons. For one, their luxury amenities and premier location are just a few key components that make this community one-of-a-kind. Kempton is also located in a central location in downtown Charleston—only one mile from the Charleston City Marina and one mile from the Ravenel Bridge. With an unbeatable location, residents can enjoy the ease of access for themselves, family, and friends. Kempton residents can also enjoy day trips and excursions to Shem Creek, White Point Gardens, King Street, and much more.
State-of-the-art amenities and opportunities make residents' time in the assisted living community comfortable and happy. The community provides transportation to appointments and social engagements either with their own Kempton vehicle or through a list of trusted transportation providers.
With 46 assisted living apartments, 21 memory support apartments, and 23 physical rehabilitation beds in the case of a planned surgery that requires therapy, the Kempton team truly has an option for all who require care.
Their luxury apartment-style options range from studios to single bedrooms and two-bedroom apartments.
Assisted living apartments all include a kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, and closet. The suite has cable television, blinds, floor-to-ceiling windows, and gorgeous views of the Holy City itself.
Residents can also enjoy three outdoor terraces, a park, an on-site salon, a therapy gym, a theater, a full-service bistro, private dining, and weekly events through the Kempton’s Life Enrichment Program.
Kempton’s Executive Director, Lindsay French says, “The added benefit of this luxury community is that residents have the medical support they need to continue enjoying the same lifestyle they were living at home.”
As a certified Nxtgen Care Community, Kempton assures family and loved ones of their residents that they constantly offer top-notch care. The Nxtgen system of sensors and bracelets measures levels of social engagement to ensure staff is responding quickly when help is needed. And, it also shows if a resident is at risk for loneliness.
This technology gives the team of operators a platform to determine if they are delivering meaningful and appropriate care to every resident as promised.
The community also offers a memory care support unit called The Harbor, dedicated to serving those who may need specific services and care due to their diagnosis of dementia and/or Alzheimer's Disease.
This secure unit has its own rooftop terrace, life enrichment space, and dining room. French says, “Our highly-trained staff works hard to cater to the specific needs of each individual—with the goal to keep residents active and engaged while maintaining their dignity and safety.”
Lindsay French and the rest of the Kempton team are eager to welcome residents to their luxury facility. French says, “We are excited to have a presence in downtown Charleston. We look forward to not only introducing a unique and beautiful community for residents to call home but also in forming strong bonds and relationships with those that live and work within the Holy City.”
