Celebrate Local Women Leaders

Sponsored by: Southern Women’s Show

From technology-media corporations to fashion-forward companies, women are taking the reins as innovators and entrepreneurs. Including music icons such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, women leaders are some of the most recognizable and inspirational figures out there.

According to the National Association of Women Business Owners, more than 9.1 million firms are owned by women, which now accounts for over 30 percent of all privately held firms. And, the U.S. census shows that between 2007 and 2012 women have increased their ownership over businesses by 30 percent. Which means women are stepping up in a significant way and people are starting to take notice.

But you don’t have to be the founder of Huffington Post to make a difference in the world and take control of your livelihood in 2016. With companies like Etsy, women who want to take ownership over their own talents can find the audience they need to succeed in one place.

If you’re interested in meeting some of the women who are taking advantage of these great opportunities and making names for themselves in the Etsy world, you can stop by the Southern Women’s Show in Charleston from September 23 – 25. The Etsy Pavilion will feature many local women artists and entrepreneurs from across the area.

For one-of-a-kind local artwork, visit the Lowcountry Artisans area that offers some of the very best Charleston artists with Etsy shops. Some of the well-known Etsy brands that will be featured at the Southern Women’s Show include Barbara Rossi of Creativity Happens who creates beautiful ceramic pieces, Angie D’ Designs who offers fun and funky jewelry made from copper and gemstones, Crafty Wooden Creations which features handmade decorative home accents and Lowcountry Eclectic’s diffuser jewelry, which is made organically in South Carolina.

Outside of the Etsy Pavilion, influential women who have created better opportunities for themselves and other women in business will be honored at the kick-off of the Southern Women’s Show through the Center for Women’s Influential Women in Business event. This event will recognize notable women from the community and is designed to offer inspiration to other attendees of the Charleston Women’s Show.

The inaugural celebration is a breakfast event on Friday, September 23 at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston from 7:30 am – 9:45 am. Community members can submit nominations for inspirational individuals in the following categories: leadership, entrepreneurship, advocacy and rising star.

If you plan on attending any of the events at the Southern Women’s Show, don’t forget to pay tribute to some of the most inspirational women in your life. On Sunday, September 25, you can bring your family to meet women leaders in the community on Mother Daughter Day. On this day, you can get creative with the ladies in your family by stopping by Creativity Happens’ exhibit in the Etsy Pavilion to craft a gift that will memorialize your time together.

From the women who inspire you from within your household to those who are leading members of your community, there are plenty of people to honor during the Southern Women’s Show and beyond. As women continue to gain ground across industries, know that there are no barriers to what can be achieved and that leaders of all levels can inspire greatness.
